What Causes Pimples

If you are someone who is curious about what causes pimples, you should know there are plenty of reasons to why they appear. Age, exposure to pollution, dead skin cells, androgen hormones, blocked pores and more are just some of the causes for pimples. In the following paragraphs, we will take a closer look at the factors that cause pimples.

Hair Follicles and androgen hormones

If you didn't know, your chest, back and face is covered in small hair follicles and each of those follicles actually contains sebaceous glands that produce sebum. When you are at puberty the amount of sebum your body will produce is going to increase a lot, especially if you are a male. As you get older, the production of sebum will decrease.

Blocked Pores

I know you are curious about what actually blocks your skin pores and let me tell you that it's not dirt. Don't get fooled by people telling you pimples are caused because you have improper hygiene. That black color from your blackheads is not actually dirt, but a substance called melanin which your own skin produces. You can clean your face as much as you want, because it will not weaken your acne, but make it worse!

Dead Skin Cells

It's inside your pores that the problem is in, not on the surface of your skin. One of the culprits for your pimples are the dead skin cells within your hair follicles. Regularly, when individual skin cells die off, the dead skin cells in your follicles will shed off, but when you suffer from acne, the process doesn't take place as expected. They will get to be shed in sheets and not individually and that is what is going to cause you to have pimples.
